How to Write a Mission Statement for Yourself

A saying goes thus, “the whole world steps aside for the man who knows where he is going”. Such an individual would not yield to side attractions because he understands quite well that distraction is another word for side attraction. For this reason, you need to know how to write a mission statement for yourself. In life, there are many folks that jump from one thing to another. They seem not to know what their core values should be, and they do not have a clear picture of what they want in life or what they ought to pursue as a personal goal. Their lives resemble the working of a pendulum. There is no stability of mind; there is no clarity of purpose; and there is no passion that lays a demand on their mental energy. Peradventure, you have a vision for yourself, but that is not enough. Wait a minute. Have you at any point in time written it down somewhere? You say that it is in your mind. May I tell you that you are a bit far from the shore. The first step to take if you want to write a mission statement for yourself is to have your vision written down in simple terms. At this juncture, I would like to share with you the difference between a vision statement and a mission statement. Your starting point for a purpose-driven life is to have a workable, vital vision for your life. Now, it is the vision that simply states: • What you want to be • What you want to do, or • What you want to achieve in life A critical example: I want to be a published author. This is extremely simple but powerful, if it has taken hold of your mind. It is expected that the whole of your mind and body should be driven by the passion to achieve this laudable aim. So, that’s a simple vision statement. From this vision, your next step is to objectively define where, when and how to achieve this vision. In other words, you state your scope and objectives in simple terms. Your mission statement is just a broader way to express your vision. Using our example above, let us put down a mission statement as follows: To prepare, package and publish great ideas and make them available in prints and in digital format, breaking the limits of language barriers to a certain extent by publishing the literary work in various foreign languages, and also being poised to favorably compete with giants in the industry with a view to becoming one of the best to reckon with. From the foregoing, you could better appreciate the value of your vision. It puts you on your toes to strategically pursue your dreamed goal until it is actualized. Inarguably, that’s how to write a mission statement for yourself. Click here for more secrets on How to set and achieve a goal
